Weekend To-Do List: See, Hear, Taste

October 14, 2010

If the visual delights of Comic-Con and Wonder-Con tickle your fancy, check out their nerdy cousin Alternative Press Expo. APE will bring you face to face with such cult heroes as Dan Clowes, author of Ghost World and the recent Wilson, and Tony Millionaire – the guy who does Maakies! The Expo is held at the Concourse and single day tickets are $10, or go both days for only $15. Online tickets available here!

If you’re more of the aurally-oriented type, then of COURSE you know about Treasure Island Music Festival this weekend. You can dance yourself clean to LCD Soundsystem on Saturday, then on Sunday relax and think about where the summer goes with Belle & Sebastian, who haven’t played in the U.S. since 2006. Other amazing acts we are looking forward to include moody romantics The National, freak rappers Die Antwoord, and ethereal techie Four Tet. Super talented locals who deserve many congrats include BAB-faves like Maus Haus, Wallpaper, and Papercuts- be sure to check ’em out. If you wanna see our pics from last year’s festival, you can peep them here.

In addition to tried and true party tricks like a ferris wheel and pirate booty, it will be interesting to see how new treats like the ‘silent disco’ will play out… headphone-donning hipsters dancing in frenzied unison to music no one else can hear? I’m looking forward to watching. Check out the schedule here, and read all about the DIY craft zone and awesome food trucks that will be there as well.

And since sights and sounds aren’t enough for us insatiable young things, we can quench our thirst at Old Oakland’s Beer Festival. Hosted by Pacific Coast Brewing, this wonderful little event takes over 4 downtown blocks on Saturday and for $20 you get a sweet commemorative glass and 5 tastings. Savor the local flavor of Drake’s, Speakeasy, Lost Coast, Bear Republic, and of course Pacific Coast. Check out all the deets over at the amazingly helpful site FunCheapSF!
