Headlands Center for the Arts

April 16, 2009

I wanted to give this its own special post, because it looks like such a fun and beautiful day trip to take this weekend. The Headlands Center for the Arts is a cluster of 1907 military buildings which have been converted into studios and residencies for working artists. The Center opens its doors to the public only 3 times a year- and this Sunday marks the first of those open houses for 2009, from noon until 5pm. Not only will there be visual arts, but also film, performing arts, readings and lectures, and poetry. On top of that, the mess hall will be converted into a cafe from noon until 430.

Admission is FREE, and the Center is located in the gorgeous Golden Gate National Recreation Area, just minutes north of San Francisco. If I weren’t going out of town, I would certainly be planning on attending this. I’m definitely going to keep my eyes peeled for the next one!

PS- check out some of the beautiful pictures that come up via flickr, I especially love this one and this one– I wonder what will be shown this weekend?
