Monthly Art Attack

April 2, 2009

It’s that time of the month again, and April Showers mean get inside and check out some more cool art.

Tonight is the First Thursday in SF, and if you can’t make it out across the bridge then I recommend checking out the exhibits being shown at the Berkeley Art Museum, which are free tonight to coincide with the other free happenings.

Tomorrow is the Oakland Art Murmur and here’s something to check out if you’re tired of the usual spots. Last Friday we went to check out the Grand Lake CD release party at Lobot, and while we were there saw an awesome giant cardboard installation in mid-construction. Looks like said installation will be the working racetrack for the ‘Cardburg 500,’ which initiates its first rounds of races for tomorrow’s Art Murmur events. The ‘Opening Tailgate Party’ starts at 8pm and will feature bands, performances, movies, and more. You can even bring your own Wind Dragster! To find out more check out the Cardboard Institute of Technology. Totally makes me think of the city made of toilet paper rolls in Michel Gondry’s Science of Sleep. (this roughly tanslates to: ‘Loves it’)

There will be Semi-Finals for the races held April 10th, and Finals on April 17th. This is for serious winners, only. As the flyer says, “No Points for Second Place!” Now where’d I put my Nascar hat and beer koozies?!
