Ocean Beach

February 19, 2009

We stopped by Ocean Beach on Monday, which I had never been to before, and walked around the Cliff House. (I know, finally, right?) Even though the weather was wet and frigid, the stormy clouds and rough sea were awesomely powerful. I think I’ll always have to live near water to stay sane- it’s nice to have a constant reminder of something so much larger than yourself to keep things in perspective.

On a side note, since neither I nor my companion knew the story behind the big crazy windmill (super tiny, in the top photo, left hand side) I decided to do some research and found out that it’s called The Dutch Windmill and was built in 1902. It was originally built for agricultural uses, but fell into disrepair after it was replaced by electric pumps. The windmill was restored in the 1980s and is now surrounded by the Queen Wilhelmina Tulip Gardens. Once the weather gets better, I’m definitely planning a return trip…
