Over Warhol?

February 18, 2009

If the name Andy Warhol evokes one of those ‘been there, done that’ kind of feelings in you- (you’re not alone)- there are a ton of great looking shows coming up to enjoy instead!

Here’s a few that looked appealing, and would make great excuses for holding off on the de Young’s touristy crowds and high prices:

40th St. Corridor Art Quest
Feb 21, 10 am – 10 pm, Oakland (this looks great)

“For the Love Of…”
Feb 21 @ Giant Robot, SF

Rachel Kaye Solo Show
Feb 20 – March 22 @ Triple Base, SF

2008 SECA Art Award Winners
until May 10 @ SFMOMA

*yay art!*

yay art! these alternatives sound awesome! i’m confused though, did you praise the de young in the post you linked to here and then dis it in this post? also have you seen the show yet? i read in the chronicle it’s not at all what you’d expect from the traditional andy warhol experience, which is why they did it in the first place. p.s., isn’t sfmoma a pricey touristy-type place too? make up your mind, lol!

Anonymous, I certainly hope that I am not dissing the de Young- it’s a fantastic museum, and I myself plan on going to the Warhol show at some point in the future. I’m just catering to a diverse crowd who may be interested in something else, that’s all. While it’s true that the SFMOMA can be easily compared to the de Young in some respects, I’m just pointing out a great exhibit there which encourages contemporary art and honors local artists- a great alternative to the influx of people who are going to see someone who gets his 15 minutes of fame over and over again, right? Also- it’s easier to get to, and food’s closer.Hope this clarifies things- thanks for reading!
