Currently Obsessed With: Cachaca

February 13, 2009

Often compared to rum, and technically a brandy, but ridiculously smoother with a pleasant smell and hardly any aftertaste…

GOLD MEDAL-2008 SAN FRANCISCO SPIRITS COMP-Leblon Cachaca is a sugar cane rum from Brazil. Available for $24.99 at Bevmo

Oysters and beer eventually turned into some bomb-ass meatloaf and cachaca. And yes, I did just use ‘bomb-ass’ to describe meatloaf-(the key? BBQ sauce.) To follow up on the oysters, they have happy hour prices- a dollar each- from 5-7pm. It’s definitely worth it, because regular prices are at least doubled. Anyways- back to the Cachaca!

This stuff is the national drink of Brazil, and is best known as the main ingredient of the delicious tropical drink, the Caipirinha– consisting of muddled lime, sugar, and cachaca. Sweet and simple, literally. However, I had a different sort of drink: cachaca with sparkling water and elderberry syrup from IKEA! Also quite literally sweet and simple- just the way I like it.
