Happy Catchy Friday Music: The Walkmen

January 16, 2009

So what if you were strolling around the Mission District, eating a burrito and minding your own business, when out from an alleyway comes The Walkmen doing an acoustic rendition of ‘Hey, Leah’…. what do you do? Drop your burrito and squeal like a little girl? No? Just me? Oh snaps, what I would give to have been there!

From Crackle: Take-Away Show: The Walkmen – “Hey Leah”

If you’re not familiar with these guys, you probably are and just don’t know it- maybe this commercial will ring a bell? Yep, that’s a clip of ‘We’ve Been Had’ from their amazing 2002 album, Everyone Who Pretended to Like Me is Gone. But sell-outs they are not; they’ve been earning their mark on the map ever since. Personal faves from their latest (and moodiest) album, include ‘Red Moon’ and ‘If Only It Were True.’

And guess what? You all can get a chance to squeal like little girls when they bring themselves back round to our little corner of the map when they play next Wednesday, the 21st, at the Fillmore. It will be an amazing show- I’ve seen these guys twice and they have yet to disappoint. Not to mention a fully loaded line-up: the calmingly surreal Beach House and Wolf Parade affiliated folk rockers Johnny & the MoonHow is this show not sold out already?!
