Another Reason Why the Bay Area Rocks: NorCal’s First LEED Platinum Home

September 26, 2008

With the increasing media coverage of the California Academy of Science, it seems that (hopefully) the LEED rating process and sustainability will become standard household terminology. That’s why it’s equally awesome to read about Northern California’s first LEED Platinum home over at Apartment Therapy. And guess where it is? None other that our own Rockridge neighborhood, in the Oakland Hills! I might be doing a sneaky drive-by one of these days to see it in person….

While green design has become a HUGE factor in the public sector, it has been a slow and arduous process to become acclimated to residential design. And while there is a lot of debate about the legitimacy of the LEED system, I hope that increased coverage of sustainable homes will inspire people to incorporate green strategies into their own houses.

Read the whole article over California Home & Design, which goes into great detail about the many energy-efficient products and systems used throughout the house- ie: LED lighting, a living roof, eco-insulation, recycled materials, a permeable driveway, etc. And check out the bathroom, clad in Heath tiles- I will be fantasizing about that shower for the rest of the day…
